Taking Careful Measurements Will Ensure The Best Possible Fit
Measurement Guide
Take measurements in the same undergarments that you would normally wear under your garment. Leotards tend to compress, unless they are loose which makes results not totally reliable. Designs In Motion is not responsible for the taking of incorrect measurements. When in doubt always go up a size to match your measurements rather than go down a size.
Tie a piece of narrow elastic or cotton tape around the waist. This will be your measuring line
Measurement Description
Bust - Measure around the fullest part of the bust line
Waist - Measure around the natural waistline
Hips - Find the widest part of the lower body by wrapping a measuring tape around the hip area and sliding it down the body
Full Girth - Hold end of tape measure on top of shoulder. Run tape down front of body through crotch and back up to the same shoulder where you started. Allow for curves of bust and abdomen etc.
Half Girth - Front waist belly button to back waist between the legs
Inseam - Measure from crotch to floor on the inside of the leg
Side Seam - Measure from waist to floor on outside of leg
Side Seam to Knee - Measure from waist to knee on outside of leg
Knee to Floor - Measure from knee to floor on outside of leg
Arm Length - Measure from under arm pit to wrist point with arm stretch out straight
Under Arm to Waist - Measure from just under the arm to the waistline
Back Nape to Waist - Find bone at base of neck and measure to waist line
Dress Length - Find bone at base of neck and measure to hem line of desired dress length
Jacket Length - Find bone at base of neck and measure to hem line of desired jacket length
Neck - Measure around neck at the lower base of neck close to shoulder bone
Neck to Shoulder - Measure from neck out to should point (dimple)
Shoulder Point to Elbow - Measure from shoulder point to top of elbow
Shoulder Point to Wrist - Measure from shoulder point to wrist bone
Elbow to Wrist - Measure from elbow point to wrist bone
Wrist - Measure around point at wrist bone
Around Top of Arm - Bicep - Measure around fullest point of upper arm approx. 6-8" down from shoulder point
